I wish the new printing had an index!
I wish the new printing had an index!
I received my new printing of the Ultimate Evil by Maury Terry and I was kind of surprised no index was included. Not that I mind the re-read, but it would be nice to be a little more surgical when looking for specific information.
Re: I wish the new printing had an index!
I agree Kudzu, an index would have been great.
The thing is, outside of the new introduction at the beginning by Josh Zeman and maybe some minor picture updates, this new re-release of the 2021 version of "The Ultimate Evil" is the exact same book from 1999 (the Barnes and Noble edition with the Epilogue added)
For hardcore SOS enthusiasts, nothing new.
But, for the general public and new people exposed to the Son of Sam, especially after the Netflix series and different podcasts popping up, it gives them access to "The Ultimate Evil" which was getting harder to track down and ridiculous to buy one on the second hand market.
An index would have been nice though!

Yes! I saw hardcover first printings going for HUNDREDS of dollars!
Re: I wish the new printing had an index!
Has anyone noticed any redactions/removals compared to the prior 1999 version? I can’t find the Andrew Crispo/Bernard LeGeros story, though the chapter titled ‘Death Mask’ is still there. I can’t compare directly because my older copy is in my office at work and I’m still working from home, though that should be changing soon.
Not that I particularly care if the Death Mask story is removed, though I do find it interesting, it doesn’t have much direct relevance to SOS (in fact I can’t remember what it was about that case that made it worthy of mention in the first place - connection to Radin?). A few years back I took out a book from the library called ‘Bag of Toys’, an entire book dedicated to that case. It was written by an insider to the whole art scene and gay/S&M underground culture, which of course made him infinitely qualified to write the book, but after just the first few chapters I found it to be so densely filled with intricate detail that I quickly got a case of information overload, and threw in the towel on it.
